During the Holy Mass celebrated in memory of Guido Dettoni della Grazia, Father Alessandro Picchiarelli reflected on the value of Guido’s art and its ability to speak directly to the lives of those who encounter it.

When a work of art speaks to us directly and touches something within our own lives, everything proclaimed by the Gospel seems to take shape and become tangible, because art is life: it is pure, authentic, and capable of revealing what the artist wishes to give.

Through his works, Guido spoke to us of a profound authenticity, one that recognises in the sign of Mary the reflection of a greater truth. In MARIA, we can see the face of Christ and encounter the beauty of God: a beauty made of love, listening and openness, which can in turn become a language through art.

The beauty of Mary is an authentic beauty, leaving no room for falsehood or duplicity. It reveals a great, true and sincere love: like a good tree that bears good fruit.

During his homily, Father Alessandro also recalled Guido in his everyday life in Assisi, when he would attend the ten o’clock Sunday Mass. It was a simple and personal memory that brought back the human and spiritual dimension of Guido’s relationship with the city and with the community of San Rufino.
